| Becoming a Licensed Contractor |

State licensed residential contractors are required to obtain a City license if they are engaging in construction on a non-residential structure. If a residential contractor has an exempt card from the State, a City license will be required. To be registered with the City the contractor must provide the City with a copy of their State license and a certificate of insurance for public liability and worker's compensation if required by State law. To be licensed with the City, the contractor must provide the City with a certificate of insurance for public liability and worker's compensation and submit a $35.00 fee. The City licensing year is May 1 through April 30 of each year. ExpirationAll licenses issued by the City of Fridley shall expire on April 30, following the date of issuance unless sooner revoked or forfeited. If a license granted by the City is not renewed previous to its expiration then all rights granted by such license shall cease and any work performed after the expiration of the license shall be in violation of this code. RenewalPersons renewing their license with the City after the expiration date shall be charged the full annual license fee. No prorated license fee shall be allowed. Suspension and RevocationThe City Council shall have the power to suspend or revoke the license of any person licensed under the regulations of this Section, whose work is found to be improper or defective or so unsafe as to jeopardize life or property providing the person holding such license is given twenty (20) days notice and granted the opportunity to be heard before such action is taken. If and when such notice is sent to the legal address of the licensee and they fail or refuse to appear at the said hearing, their license will be automatically suspended or revoked five (5) days after date of hearing. When a license issued under this Section is suspended, the period of suspension shall be not less than thirty (30) days nor more than one (1) year, such period being determined by the City Council. |
