Redevelopment UnderwayAlthough Fridley is fully developed, that has not stopped reinvestment in our community! Superstores are catering to the customer in their exterior and interior remodels. Much needed senior care and housing facilities are popping up. More move-up housing is being built. Our classic ramblers cater to a range of incomes and young families are seeking homes to take advantage of the variety of public and private schools including a unique K-12 IB program. The planning department has developed a new Northstar TOD zoning overlay district, a transit TIF district, multi-modal transportation studies and corridor design funded by a SHIP grant and scattered site acquisition in the past year alone. WalmartWal-Mart constructed an addition to the south and east sides of the building that provides more grocery options. The Garden Center was relocated to the northwest side of the building. Along with both the exterior and interior building modifications, Wal-Mart also constructed a sidewalk along the University Avenue Service Drive.
Landmark of FridleyLocation: 6490 Central Ave NE and 1282 Mississippi St NE The corner of Mississippi Street and Central Avenue is changing. A vacant neighborhood restaurant, originally built as a dry goods store in 1886 and later became Sandee's restaurant, had served the community for decades. Now torn down, the developer broke ground in late September for a 70 unit independent and assisted living and memory care community. Construction is underway for the Landmark of Fridley assisted living project. To learn more about the project, please call the property manager at 612-910-6152. White Pine Assisted LivingLocation: 6352 Central Ave NE and 1271 E Moore Lk Dr Residents seeking assisted living and memory care have moved into the completed Phase 1 of the project. Phase 2 will soon be built. The availability of these senior apartments fills a gap in housing needs for Fridley's elderly residents. To learn more about the project, please call Laura Stanga at 763-574-7366. Transit Orientated Development (TOD) Text Amendment
In spring 2011, the City Council approved boundaries and code language for a Transit Orientated Development (TOD) overlay zoning district around the Fridley Northstar Station. The goal of the TOD area is to create more, and safer, walking and cycling traffic between the train station and the commercial corridor along 57th Avenue, strengthening the retail opportunities in that area of the City. Read the zoning text amendment in city code Section 205.33 O-8.
