How does commuter rail differ from light rail?

A commuter rail line runs during peak hours on weekdays. Light rail trains operate seven days a week and 24 hours a day. The Northstar commuter rail trains that stop in Fridley will connect with the Hiawatha light rail line in downtown Minneapolis. Want to learn more about what to expect at the Fridley station? Northstar Station Grand Openingnorthstar3

Over 1,000 people attended the Northstar Rail Grand Opening on Saturday, November 14, 2009. Residents, businesses and local officials had the opportunity to celebrate the new rail service. The community event was held from 8:30am-11:30am at the station site and hundreds of people rode the train free of charge. Metro Transit staff were available to explain how the commuter rail connects to the light rail and the new Twins Stadium.

The Grand Opening was a fun event, thanks to the Fridley Community Band's performance, the refreshment provided by Bob's Produce and Dunn Bros., and the Recreation Department's face painters.
