Yard Waste Disposal OptionsYard waste consists of grass clippings, leaves, weeds, and soft-bodied, non-woody green plant material. Reminder: putting yard waste in the garbage is prohibited by MN state law. Minnesota state law requires compostable bags for bagged yard waste collection. Call your trash hauler for details and to inquire about the availability of yard waste carts. County Compost Site Hours: Seasonally April 1 to November 30, Weather PermittingThere is a County Yard Waste site in Coon Rapids, called the Bunker Hills Regional Compost Site. Anoka County compost sites generally open for the season from April 1 to November 30, weather permitting. For more information about this yard waste disposal option, visit the Anoka County Compost Site or call 763-323-5730. A fee is charged. Backyard CompostingHomeowners may manage their yard waste on site by leaving it on the lawn, mulching, or practicing backyard composting. To ensure that your compost area does not become a public nuisance to your neighbors consult the City Code composting requirements in the Solid Waste section. Your garbage hauler may also take yard waste at the curb, but you often have to sign up in advance and pay extra for this service. Call your hauler to determine your options. Go to the University of Minnesota Extension Service Home Page and search the data base under backyard composting. Tree Waste Disposal OptionsTree waste is not trash. Tree waste consists of brush, logs and stumps. State law prohibits putting tree waste in your garbage. Tree waste is accepted at the Anoka County Compost Site for a fee. Tree waste may be used as firewood or chipped for mulch. Your garbage hauler may collect brush and tree waste for a fee. Check the local telephone directory under "Tree Service" or "Ground Maintenance" for businesses that handle tree waste. |
