[ARCHIVED] Reminder: Protect Yourself from Home Burglaries

The season of merriment can also be the season of opportunity for criminals. Do your part to protect your property with a few simple reminders from Fridley Police.

Thieves often look to commit crimes of convenience that provides quick and easy access to what they are looking for; money, transportation and electronics. Keep your home as secure as possible. Purchase locking bars for patio doors. Keep all doors and windows locked. If possible, install alarms which will sound if windows are opened from the outside. Install motion lights high enough so someone cannot reach up and unscrew the bulb. Keep your vehicle in the garage, remove the keys, lock the vehicle and lock the garage. If going on vacation, ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your home, or sign up online for Police Reserves to check your property while you are away.

If you have a situation where you suspect someone may be trying to gain access to your home, or if you see any suspicious activity, please call 9-1-1 immediately.
